Kellie Owens is a K99/R00 Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy at the University of Pennsylvania. She conducts research on the ethical use of technology and data in medicine. Her most recent projects explore how new technologies and data sources impact risk management and decision-making in medical fields such as clinical genomics and obstetrics. She is particularly interested in understanding when and how new technologies can worsen or ameliorate health inequities. Her research is sponsored by the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and her work has been published in journals such as Nature Medicine, Social Science and Medicine, and Science, Technology, and Human Values. She completed her PhD in sociology at Northwestern University, and was formerly a Predoctoral Visiting Research Fellow in the Program on Science, Technology, and Society at Harvard University. She is also an advisory board member for the Health & Data team at Data & Society Research Institute.
