VISUALIZE JUSTICE: THE INTERSECTION OF PHOTOGRAPHY AND ADVOCACY
Led by Deborah Espinosa
Online | Tuesdays 4-6pm (PST) | June 7 – 28, 2022
In a supportive and non-judgmental environment, students will explore and assess the historical and contemporary intersection of photography and social justice advocacy. Topics to be discussed include a theory of change as well as the role of advocates, partnerships, and community engagement in photography projects about social justice issues, including criminal justice, racial justice, gender justice, environmental justice, disability justice, economic justice, and human rights. Students will develop and present their own draft strategies for photography-based partnerships that leverage the power of photography and community to inspire and accelerate social change.
Workshop will occur over four online sessions on Tuesdays 4-6pm (PST), June 7, 14, 21 & 28. Sessions will include presentations, resources and discussion, with an assignment each week (i.e. readings, short videos to watch, research) to guide participants towards developing their own draft proposal of a photography-based partnership/project. Must be 18+ years old to participate; open to all skill levels.
